Congrats to Adam, Luke, and Chris St. John for placing 44th out 130 teams internationally, in the IEEE Xtreme Programming Competition.
Hello follow SUNY NP E&CE students,
Yes, we made it thru 24 hrs and we are still here. ;-)) And get this: we have
submitted a total of 6 solutions.
Congratulations to the three "Xteremists" and the supporters!! You did us proud.
Around 11 AM this morning, we received the final booklet which contained 2 more
problems. This brings up to a total of 16 problems over the 24 hrs period. Here
is the final two problems. Check it out and have some fun.
There are 125 teams from all over the world participated in this years "Xtreme"
programming contest. A team can have up to 3 members. Some of the teams have
only one person. Many universities have entered multiple teams. Bilkent
University, Ankara, Turkey fielded 15 teams!!! Maybe next year we can team up
with Dutchess Community College and USMA and field several teams!! How about it
DCC? USMA?
You can find out more about this contest from the following web sites.

Now we are leaving and going home. Hope you enjoyed the updates as much as we
did on the contest.
Tim,
we have submitted 4 solutions. And we have also received another 2 problems. A
grand total of 16 problems (10+4+2).
Now we are seeing some light; sun light that is. We are still working on some
of the 14 problems. Progress is a bit slower now after 15 hours.
Good news is that we have submitted two more solutions, a grand total of 3. ;0))
Bring you pom-pom to cheer your buddies when you visit us today . We will be
here until 7:00PM.
As of 9:54 PM, we have submitted three solutions into the project.
Here is an update on the contest. Just in case you are out there cheering for
us..... We are still going STRONG... I try to take a nap, but it is hard to do.
Between all the excitement, solution submission and new emails from."IEEEXtreme
Admin", I was able to close my eyes only a bit. The 3 crazy guys are
still wide awake. ;o)))
1. Great News.... We submitted a solution for problem #1 around 2:30AM..
2. I was wrong about solving 10 problems in 24 hrs.. Here is another booklet
which contains 4 more problems. ( I am not making any more predication on the #
of problems to be solved in 24 hrs.)
Take a look at the new problems and have some fun..

IEEE Xtreme is an IEEE SAC initiative for creating a worldwide programming
contest for IEEE Student Branches.
In IEEEXtreme teams of student members, supported by a Student Branch, advised
and proctored by an IEEE Member, compete in a 24-hour time span to solve
a set of programming problems. The 2008 edition of the contest will begin at
00:01 GMT time of March 8th 2008 and end the following day (Sunday, March 9th
2008)... Translation.. The contest began at 7:00PM Eastern Standard Time (NY
time) Friday, March 7 and will end 24-hrs later, on Saturday at 7:00PM.
There are over 125 competing teams, 3 students per team, in this year's
world-wide competition. There are 10 problems in the contest and we have 24 hrs
to solve them.
Here is the problem booklet. You can take a look and see if you can solve them.
And see how much fun we are having.;-))
Oh, Yes, we are struggling. ;-((
Four and a half hours into the contest, we are still trying to finish one
solution. & we will be up all night.
IEEE with the help of SWE and HKN are organizing a Solar Car Team, Rob
need's a response from all those interested. IEEE with be requesting
approximately $60,000 (of the $160k Solar Car budget) from the Student
Association. Next year, the solar car team will be a separate club advised, by
Mike Otis. At IEEE's meeting tonight we will discuss the proposed budget.
The meeting is 2/27/08 at 7:30 PM in REH 109. Also email Rob which are good for
you for solar meetings, preferably Monday or Wednesday.
A key senior design project which we will need in the future is an embedded
system which would control the steering and acceleration via a joystick. This
would drop the weight of the car due to less mechanical parts. The controller
would control the speed and acceleration of the car since it would have a hub
motor on each of the front wheels. Also steering would be controlled via
"steering by wire" design which would turn the rear wheel as needed.
Polytechnic University offers a 10% discount on all online courses for Long
Island IEEE members. See link for details.

The IEEE student chapter participated in Engineering Day on the campus of SUNY New Paltz on February 20, 2008. More than 1000 middle and high school student attended the event, held in the Elting Gymnasium. IEEE built and displayed an AC to DC power supply and demonstrated its function using an oscilloscope. For pictures of engineering day, visit our photo gallery.
Results of the Fall 2007 election are as follows:
